MORE than 50 years after he first lit up Southampton’s soul scene Jimmy James will be returning to headline a sizzling soul package at Eastleigh’s Concorde Club.

Jimmy and The Vagabonds had two number one records in Jamaica when they touched down on English soil in the sixties. With their roots buried deep in the musical smelting pot of Jamaica, coupled with a strong American influence, they had their sights set on the booming British rock and soul scene.

It did not take long for fans at The Concorde, then running from the back bar of a Southampton pub, and the city’s Adam and Eve to tap into this pulsating brand of soul.

The soul veteran returns to The Concorde on September 9 as part of the club’s 60th anniversary celebrations. The audience will be treated to classic sixties dance floor fillers like I’ll Go Where The Music Takes Me and Now Is The Time.

Sharing the bill will be Odyssey,, best known for their 1977 hit Native New Yorker.

Also elivering their own distinctive soul brand will be The Edwin Starr Band, starring Angelo Starr.

American soul singing sensation Edwin Starr was only 61 when his life was cruelly snatched away after a heart attack.

He was a hero on the Northern Soul circuit and made England his home.

But Edwin’s music has been kept alive through his brother Angelo, who worked alongside Edwin throughout his career, and his original seven piece band The Team.

He will be showcasing disco floor gripping classics like War, 25 Miles, SOS, Stop Her On Sight, Happy Radio and Eye to Eye Contact.

The Concorde line-up also includes special guest Eban Brown from The Stylistics and disc jockeys Gary King and Paul Mico will keep those sensational soul discs spinning.
