GET on your marks for a community games event coming to Eastleigh.

A team of volunteers is busy organising the Eastleigh Community Games Sports Festival, set to take place on June 18.

The range of activities on offer will be for children and adults of all ages, with something for every ability, including those with learning disabilities or physical disabilities.

Up to 20 local coaches will be delivering free taster activities and providing information throughout the day, showcasing what their sport or club has to offer.

The community games will run from 12pm to 4pm on June 18 at Pavilion on the Park, Kingfisher Road, Eastleigh.

The national community games initiative was inspired by the 2012 London Olympics as a way of encouraging communities to become more physically active and to become more involved, through volunteering.

Organised by London 2012 Games Makers, this is the fifth year that a community games event has been held in Eastleigh. Last year’s event saw more than 250 families trying out a new sporting activity.

Event organiser Daisy Robinson said: “We want people to come and try something new – from wheelchair rugby to inclusive cycling – there is something for everyone.

“Activities will be available for taster sessions throughout the event, just have a go. We even have a smoothie bike for those wanting to pedal to make their own drink.”

Volunteers are being recruited to help organise the event in advance and on the day. Visit www.eastleighcommunityevents.co.uk
