Crazy golf at Winchester Cathedral, what could possibly go wrong?
Once again, for Winchester’s Hat Fair festival there has been a crazy golf area installed in the outer cathedral close.
The trouble is one of the crazy golf holes is a devil holding a saucepan.
Jai Simpson the manager of the course said: “Someone has made a complaint about a devil being on cathedral grounds. The site manager Joe came and told us and asked if we could cover him up or remove him.”
But Jai had a cunning plan. He added: “We thought about what defines the devil and decided it is his horns and tail so someone went to a fancy dress shop and bought a cape and a hat to cover his devilish attributes.”
Later in the day a Cathedral spokesperson came to see the crazy golf and they told Jai that they were happy with the ‘de-devilisation’.
Jai said: “The cathedral representative said they had seen the devil for the last four years and no-one has ever complained before. We’ve actual been here five or six years years but I think we’ll bring the cape and hat next year, just in case.”
