A WOMAN was sexually assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning after getting into a car she believed was a taxi near Bedford Place in Southampton.
The 30-year-old woman, from Fareham, got into the car just before 2pm on Sunday. She was then sexually assaulted over her clothes before being left near junction 9 of the M27 (Whiteley).
The woman was left with no physical injuries.
Now officers have arrested a 57-year-old man on suspicion of sexual assault. He is currently in police custody.
Hampshire Constabulary are still appealing for information over the incident. Detective Inspector Andy Symes said: “Were you out in Bedford Place on Saturday night? Could you have seen a lone woman getting into a suspicious vehicle? We’d like to hear from you if you have any information which could help us.”
