A POPULAR sport scheme has officially kicked off.
Dozens of youngsters descended on Freespace Skatepark in Chandler’s Ford yesterday to take part in the free Skate Jam event which marked the launch of Park Sport 2017.
As previously reported by the Daily Echo, youngsters aged between eight and 16 and living across the borough will have the chance to enjoy activities in more than 25 local parks, paying just £1 per session.
Now the Mayor of Eastleigh, councillor Maureen Sollitt, has officially launched the scheme that will run until September 1.
Cllr Sollitt said: “It’s important to run these activities. Youngsters can get out in the fresh air and have fun. This is a great example of how the council works with the community and for the community and its commitment to keep people healthy. I hope everyone will be enjoying these activities.”
The popular scheme celebrates its 13th anniversary this year and it is run with the support of Eastleigh Borough Local Area Committees, VIVID Homes as well as parish and town councils.
