SOUTHAMPTON is set to get a new luxury hotel complex.

Known as Room 2, the new multi-million development on 1-8 Queens Terrace in Southampton will be billed as the designer hotel for the modern traveller offering 71 studio rooms.

Under the plans, the hotel rooms will be stocked with ‘home comforts’ including kitchen, work table, rainfall showers, free wifi, a screen mirroring TV, king-sized beds and air conditioning.

In addition to this, a selection of rooms feature ‘mezzanine top decks’ for flexible stays accommodating families, children and sharers.

Meanwhile, a public area will offer a flexible ground floor, designed as a space to work, meet and relax along with a grab and go coffee bar.

Planning permission was given two years ago and work is currently under way.

Robert Godwin, 28, managing director of Lamington Group which operates 70 serviced apartments across West London, is the brainchild behind the development.

He said: “I know the city really well and thought it would be a fantastic idea to bring this type of accommodation to Southampton where there is a big need for high quality accommodation in the city.

“We’re really excited to bring to Southampton what we feel is the first truly stylish hotel space, taking the best of the emerging design hotel sector, and designing memorable guest experiences tailored to both both long and short stays.”

Mr Godwin added that they were looking to cater for peoplewho wanted to stay somewhere where they could make their own meals and live in a normal residential way.

Room 2’s concept is designed by Project Orange, a Shoreditch based architectural firm a specialising in unique concept and design. The hotel is due to be completed by March 2018, with a further site planned to open in Chiswick in London next year.
