Benjamin Alan Gregory, 22, of Hinkler Road, Thornhill, pleaded guilty to sending the messages over eight days between June 2 and June 10 this year.
The 22-year-old was handed a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.
A community order was also made after he breached a restraining order. Gregory was also made to pay £115 victim surcharge and £150 costs in total.
