SKI and snowboard lovers are taking to the slopes of a Southampton snowsport centre to raise cash for a vital cause.

Active Nation, who run Southampton’s sports and leisure facilities on behalf of Southampton City Council, has thrown open its doors today to offer free lessons and use of the slopes, for 24hours, in aid of Children in Need.

Visitors using the slopes are urged to donate to the cause to help the centre reach its target of £1,000.

And staff at the centre are welcoming both novice and experienced skiers and boarders.

So far today the centre saw 13 people brave the slopes between 12.30am and 5am – with many staying for the entire duration.

Karen Platt, operations manager, said: “It has been an amazing day already. People have turned up in fancy dress and everything.”

Alpine manager Clive Marshall said: “This a great opportunity for Southampton to have a go at Snowsports and help our charity Active Nation support and raise funds for Children in Need.

"The challenge is open to all abilities and anyone from 4 years of age can get active, have some fun and help us towards our target, all sessions are free of charge all we ask is that you make a donation on the day.”
