Cllr McEwing and council leader Simon Letts should be ashamed of themselves wasting money on celebrating the deaths of so many crew and passengers lost on the ill fated Titanic.

This was a tragedy that should of never happened. So many lives wasted by the greed of the then-ship owners who cut back on so much in the way of lifeboats and the design of the watertight doors.

To waste money glorifying such a tragedy when the people of this city have to face massive cutbacks in services for the needy and roads that are falling apart, they should hang their heads in shame.

This tragedy happened over 100 years ago and should be laid to rest. I am sure the residents of this city could find better use of the quoted £80 per plaque plus the cost of fitting.

I remember many of the crew came from the Chapel area and the old Northam which no longer exists.

Just who would want to wander around these areas, which are now mostly industrial, to look at a plaque fixed to an industrial unit?
