A SECOND Southampton park was taped-off in two days following reports that a teenager was raped.

Officers cordoned off Weston Shore play park this morning after reports of a rape against a 19-year-old woman.

Police closed the park to allow officers to carry out enquiries, following a call at 3.07am yesterday.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said no-one has been arrested at this time.

The force added that the incident is not linked to yesterday's rape probe at Hoglands Park.

Officers taped off the city centre park yesterday morning following reports that a 26-year-old woman was raped.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police have released a statement to reassure Southampton residents following the incidents.

Chief Inspector Beth Pirie said “The parks in Southampton are spaces that are regularly used by city residents and visitors and we want people to feel safe using these areas.

“It is always a shock to the community when something like this happens and we will be as visible as possible to make people feel safer.

“It is important to remember that the majority of people who use the parks do so on their daily walks to work, as a cut-through to town, to meet friends or to exercise - but we try and advise people to not use them on their own at night because they are away from roads, traffic and residential streets.

"We would always advise those walking alone anywhere in the city to stick to busy, well-lit areas and to try and avoid taking short cuts. Remain alert and report anyone suspicious to 101.”
