MEMBERS of the British Titanic Society visited the Port of Southampton today for a wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the sailing of RMS Titanic 106 years ago.
Bob Burr’s grandfather Ewart joined the ship as a steward on April 4 1912 aged 28. Sadly he did not survive the disaster, leaving Bob’s grandmother Ethel to bring up her two-year-old son (Bob’s father).
Speaking after the wreath laying ceremony, Bob said: “It is an honour to be here to mark the 106th anniversary. I have been involved with the British Titanic Society since 1994 and I think it is important that we continue to mark the anniversary. The memory should be kept alive for future generations.”
