IT’S the new hotel set to revolutionise the way travellers see overnight stays and it’s coming to Southampton first.

UK real estate developer, Lamington Group is behind the launch of room2, a new brand of “hometel” properties.

The £11million hotel will be built in Southampton as the first city to launch its new concept due to its booming tourism industry.

The hometel concept takes all the comforts and flexibility of the home and combines it with the best bits of a hotel to create accommodation for travellers that is, a home away from home.

Hometel will be built on Queens Terrace offering 71 spacious rooms with spectacular views overlooking Queens park and the harbour.

Guests can book themselves in for a stay at the comfortable new hometel which opens June 4, rates start from £79 a night.

Rooms are complete with fully equipped kitchens, large king beds, and plenty of space to work or relax. The home inspired hotel also features, a coffee bar, a gym and a communal space for working and socialising, known as ‘The Living Room’.

It will create 20 new on-site jobs for the city as well as generating a revenue boost for local businesses.

Construction contractor, Garnnne Interiors will be the company responsible for refurbishing the existing building.

Founder and managing director Robert Godwin said: “Speaking to guests we discovered they were finding it hard to live their life the way they do at home when they stay in hotels.

“room2 is our solution to all of those problems. It bridges the gap between an Airbnb and a hotel. You have your living room and kitchen space but you also have the peace of mind of hotel-level security and cleanliness.

“We’re really passionate about bringing this concept to the market. It’s what the industry, and most importantly, consumers, have needed for a long time.

"When room2 launches in Southampton we’re confident that it’ll form the blueprint for us to roll out the hometel concept across the UK. As a young and ambitious brand, we couldn’t be more excited about that.”

Sandeep Sesodia; Chair of the Southampton Business Board at Hampshire Chamber of Commerce said: “That the first Hometel is opening in Southampton is recognition of Southampton’s premier position as a destination for businesses and tourists.

"The investment in Southampton by Lamington Group reflects their confidence in Southampton's growing and successful economy. The hotels unique offering provides an alternative style of accommodation and services and sits neatly amongst its peers.

"The location of the hotel will complement the cruise terminals. This is undoubtedly another success story for Southampton”.
