A multi-organisation emergency rescue was launched at Northam Bridge last night - because a woman was trying to gain access to her own boat.
Police initially responded to calls that a man was acting suspiciously on the bridge, phoned in by a passing driver on Saturday evening.
After officers attended the scene, and requested assistance from Southampton Coastguard Rescue Team, RNLI and other services, it became clear that it was actually a woman, who was accessing her own boat near the bridge.
It had initially been reported that a man had jumped into the water, and that the search to find the man safe and well had taken almost two hours.
Police have now clarified that the search ended by discovering the woman was using the bridge to get into her vessel nearby.
