IT'S a new term for one Southampton school - and a new era
Jim Henderson is just two weeks into his headship at Woodlands Community College and is tasked with improving results
But he said he would "welcome" inspectors if they came now - and says attendance has already improved "significantly."
Speaking to the Echo Mr Henderson said: "I was interviewed by the head prefects for the job. They really wanted it to be the right head teacher for them. I was so impressed by the maturity and confidence they showed in the interview.
"The key strength of the school is the students. They are really welcoming and polite. The relationship with the staff is a really positive one. I have been really struck by how welcoming the staff and students are.
"Student voice is really strong at Woodlands. The college council meets regularly and is such a valuable part of the school. They are involved in so many key decisions in the school and show great responsibility and commitment in everything they do.
Now Mr Henderson says he will be making sure teaching and learning and progress improve "quickly."
He said: "That's the area I'm going to focus on for the next two years. We are looking forward to Ofsted coming in and would value their visit."
The school's core values are respect, responsibility and resilience.
The school has 570 pupils
Chair of governors is Councillor Sue Blatchford.
