Residents have reacted in horror to a developer's plans to redevelop the most expensive piece of real estate ever sold in Southampton.

A convent, a swimming pool and a student accommodation block are among buildings set to be demolished to allow the redevelopment of the former New College site in The Avenue.

In their place Linden Homes wants to put up more than 200 flats, 19 town houses and a 69-unit sheltered accommodation block.

However nearby residents say they are angry at the plans and that the proposed 'trendy' buildings will look out of place in the area.
