A WOMAN was taken to hospital today after her car left the road and ended up on its side in a 9ft ditch.

It happened on the A3090 road between Ower and Romsey, near its junction with Ridge Lane, just after 5.30am.

The driver was freed from the wreckage by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and taken to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

The northbound carriageway of the A3090 was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

A SCAS spokesman said the call came in at 5.41am.

He added: "The caller reporting a single car accident involving a vehicle that had rolled over and ended up on its side in bushes at the side of the road.

"We sent a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and our Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.

"Fortunately the female driver had sustained only minor injuries but we required the assistance of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service because she was unable to get out of the car due to where it had ended up and its condition.

"After being helped out of the vehicle, she was taken to University Hospital Southampton for further treatment."

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the accident resulted in the car ending up on its side in a 9ft ditch.

He added that crews from Romsey and Redbridge fire stations were sent to the scene.
