THOUSANDS of revellers are making their way to the Isle of Wight for the 50th anniversary of one of the UK’s most loved festivals.

Indie rockers Kasabian take to the stage on Friday, Depeche Mode and Liam Gallagher on Saturday and The Killers on Sunday night.

The Manic Street Preachers, Nile Rodgers and Van Morrison complete the line-up, while Scottish band Travis, electronic duo Chase and Status and a set from the Hacienda Classical fill the Big Top.

As reported the four day event has sold out.

Ahead of the event, travel bosses are warning those travelling to the Isle of Wight to expect delays.

Ferry service, Red Funnel, tweeted earlier today: "If you’re heading to @IsleOfWightFest today, we are very busy.

"If travelling with a vehicle please ensure you arrive 30-45mins prior.

"If you are late for your sailing, you will need to rebook, we will try and get you across as soon as we can, but we have limited availability."

Meanwhile, Hampshire Constabulary has set out a dedicated policing plan for this year's festival.

Hampshire Constabulary are working closely with festival organisers, Solo, to keep crime as low as possible and ensure a fun and safe event.

Officers will be patrolling the site in partnership with security staff to ensure a safer environment for members of the public.

Hampshire Constabulary's crime prevention advisor said: "Rest assured, before the festival has even begun, work is well underway to develop a plan to ensure the event runs smoothly."
