CHILDREN were dancing in the streets as families came together for some fun in the sun in Bishop's Waltham.

Organised by the Bishop's Waltham Town team, the Kids Treat event took over the high street of the rural town, with 37 community groups all coming together to provide a myriad of free activities for children from the ages of three to 13.

Activities included everything from face painting, papercraft and photography classes to bird house construction, magic tricks and sports like tennis and cricket.

Volunteer Sarah Berry who helped organise the event said: "This year the Town team decided we wanted to do something for kids because there's not usually a lot of events for children in rural towns like ours and the bus services in hampshire are not great to say the least."

"It was a fabulous day, I think the weather helped a lot and a lot of mums were thankful for something to do with kids while dad watched the football."

"The spirit of community effort was palpable and it was very jolly."

When asked whether the day would become an annual event Mrs Berry said:

"We need to sit back and take stock, but we are definitely going to do something kid focused again.

"Whether it's annual or bi-annually, I don't know yet."
