FOUR people from Southampton have been arrested for attempted murder after a serious crash in the city.

Police say a 27-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl have all been arrested following the collision, on Weston Lane, Southampton.

It comes after a motorcyclist was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a crash between a car and a motorbike.

Paramedics say the man, aged 19, suffered a serious head injury in the crash, which took place outside Chamberlayne Leisure Centre at around 3.50am today.

The man was rushed to University Hospital Southampton with life-threatening injuries.

Police closed off the Weston Lane following the crash and have cordoned off a wider area.

The road remains closed and drivers are being warned to avoid the area if possible.

Firefighters from Hightown also attended the crash for scene safety.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said two people were injured in the incident and were handed to South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) for treatment.

A spokesperson for SCAS said: "We received an emergency 999 call at 3.51am with the caller reporting a collision between a car and a cyclist outside Chamberlayne Leisure Centre on Weston Lane.

"We sent an ambulance to the scene and the crew treated the male cyclist, in his 20s, at the scene initially as he had sustained a serious head injury before then taking him to University Hospital Southampton."

Bus bosses are warning of delays and changes to travel because of the crash.

First Southampton say its X4's and X5's, which normally use Weston Lane, are being diverted via Wright's Hill and towards Southampton.
