MORE than £50,000 has been raised for two good causes by a charity match at St Marys.

The home of the Saints hosted the match that saw £54,000 to be split equally between Naomi House and Jacksplace, and Abbie’s Army.

The game was organised by developer Taylor Wimpey, and saw their southern counties team line up against west London regions with the south winning 6-2.

As part of the fundraising efforts, a dinner, charity auction and raffle was also put on with guest speakers Francis Benali and Matt Le Tissier.

James Snelgar, project manager at Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said: “What a day and what a fantastic fundraising achievement. When myself, Garth Truscott and Jacob Hughes all started to plan this match, never did we think it would be the success that it was!

“Everybody put their heart and soul into the game. We’re immensely proud we managed to raise £54,000 for Naomi House and Jacksplace and Abbie’s Army and would like to thank everybody at Taylor Wimpey, our extended friends, contractors and suppliers for their support leading up to, and on the day – it was a proud occasion all round!”

Naomi House & Jacksplace supports families and patients with life-limiting illnesses and is based in Sutton Scotney, and has charity shops across Hampshire.

Abbie’s Army is dedicated to raising awareness and funding for research into DIPG a fatal paediatric brain cancer.
