WEEKS after being made homeless, a much loved tea rooms is back open again.

Evelyn’s Tea House was originally based in Fair Oak, but after its tenancy was up it was facing a bleak future.

But now under its new name and in a new premises in Bitterne, Evelyn’s Tea House is ready to serve its loyal customers once again.

Evelyn’s, which was named after found Debs Carey’s grandmother, reopened on Saturday in the former Post Office and Newsagents on Thornhill Park Road.

Customers were treated to more than 100 types of speciality teas, homemade cakes and biscuits as well as a first glance around the new site.

Deb runs the tea rooms with daughter Melissa.

She said: “I did panic that we may not be able to find somewhere else because the customers and parish council in Fair Oak didn’t want us to learn.

“But little did I know the best place for us would be the building we’re in now which was right under my nose.

“The transformation has been amazing - it doesn’t look like the same place. We’ve taken a risk moving and starting from scratch again but hopefully everyone enjoys what we offer.”

Evelyn’s was inspired by Debs’ gran, who passed away just before the tea rooms launched in 2015.

Growing up, Debs and her gran would bake cakes and she was so inspired by cooking she decided to pack in her career as a teacher and open the cafe.

Melissa wanted to also get involved, so learning from scratch she was taught by Debs how to bake and is now the main chef at the cafe.

Evelyn’s is open between Tuesday and Sunday every week.
