A HAMPSHIRE beach has been taped-off over a bomb scare.
Bomb disposal experts are investigating an object found in the water off the shore at Lee-on-the-Solent.
Emergency services were called to the beach yesterday afternoon after reports of possible ordnance.
An HM Coastguard spokesperson said: “We were called yesterday at 5.40pm. It’s a possible ordnance. It’s not confirmed.
"EOD bomb disposal are looking into it this afternoon.”
A spokesperson from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "It's about 250 metres south west of the slip way in Lee-on-Solent.
"It's about 5kg. It's going to be an exclusion zone of 30metres.
"Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Coastal Rescue Team will be there from 12.30 to keep people safe.
"The explosive ordnance disposal team will be there from 1pm when they will make an official assessment.
"We have informed the harbour. In the meantme the coastguard is broadcasting every hour to vessels boats and jet skis to advise of the exclusion zone."
