A HAMPSHIRE fish and chip shop could be crowned the best in the country.
Best Fry, in West End, is one of 60 businesses in the running for Fish and Chip Shop of the Year.
Shortlisted shops are judged on more than just the food they serve.
Sustainability, menu innovation, catering for special dietary requirements, customer service and marketing are all part of the package of what makes these fish and chip shops the best in the country.
Over the coming weeks the final 60 will host visits from mystery diners in order to whittle the list down to 20.
The top ten will be decided in September before the last stage of judging in January 2019.
John Lee, who runs Best Fry, said: “Once again it’s fantastic to get into the top 60 in the National Fish and Chip Shop Awards.
“This wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the staff and manager. We pride ourselves on quality and traditional fish and chips and it’s rewarding to get acknowledged once again.’
The winner of the award will be announced on January 24 at a ceremony in London.
