SOUTHAMPTON’S hottest up-and-coming talent wowed the crowds at a city hospital.

Finalist of The Voice UK Donel Mangena played what for many will be a memorable gig at Southampton general hospital.

But the kind-hearted teenager also toured wards, meeting youngsters and chatting to those waiting for operations or recovering from treatment.

The ultimate young popstar has just unleashed his debut-single, Bang Like A Drum.

After playing two songs - including his new single - in the children’s ward reception he then toured the wards to meet youngsters who are too ill to leave their beds.

And in a touching moment he gave a heart-felt rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little star for 23-month-old Tommey Lednor.

Donel, 16, said: “It was really heart-warming to be able to visit the kids at Southampton Children’s Hospital today - to visit kids that don’t always get the opportunity to get t see gigs and events they might like to and perform for them. The work they do here is amazing and I felt honoured to be putting a smile on faces.”

As reported the new song was co-written by Donel and features up-and-coming London rapper Swarmz.

The track is described as an afro-swing leaning pop smash, bringing pure vibes and fun. Joyce Stebbings, youth and play services manager at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We really appreciate Donel taking the time to visit us and perform for our young patients. It is always valuable to provide both patients and staff with some respite and the time and care Donel took with everyone on his tour of the wards was very special.”
