I HAVE to agree with Alec Samuels (letters, August 13) on the subject bus passes.
He's right, many pensioners are better off than ever before.
Myself and most of my relations and friends are now retired on private and state pensions which makes us financially secure for the rest of our lives.
None of them has objected to paying a 50p token payment towards their bus ride – come on, what can you buy for 50p these days?
But for pensioners who are living on the basic state pension only, the bus pass should be totally free.
