CITY transport chiefs are gearing up for a busy day as two major events come to Southampton. Up to 15,000 people are expected to attend this year's Pride event.

And on Saturday Saints will face opponents Leicester FC in this season's third match.

Now organisers are asking people to plan ahead and leave plenty of time for getting to both events.

As reported this year's Pride festival will see Union-J and the Cheeky Girls take to the main stage.

The Guildhall will be full of stalls and organisations giving out information and advice. There will be petting zoo and children's activity corner - while the parade itself will set off from Guildhall Square at 2pm until around 3.30pm.

It will take marchers down Above Bar to the Bargate and back to West Marlands Road.

Saints kick-off is at 3pm and the club is advising visitors arriving by train that they will not be able to cross the Parade route. A club spokesperson said: "For supporters making their way to St Mary's from Southampton Central train station, please not it will not be possible to cross the parade route from 1.45pm to 3.30pm, so it is highly recommended to have done so before this time. "There will however be an opportunity for supporters who have remained in Yates's on Above Bar, to watch the day's televised lunchtime game to cross at about 2.15pm.

"Supporters walking from Southampton Central are instead advised to use Blechynden Terrace, onto West Park Road and then Commercial Road, on the north side of the station, to navigate towards the stadium."

City transport chief Councillor Jacqui Rayment said: "I appreciate that Southampton will be busy with so much going on. Obviously leave early and plan your journey.
