SOME of the greatest names in music appear at Victorious Festival this weekend.

The Libertines, Paul Weller and The Prodigy lead a huge line-up of talent over more than fifteen stages and tents at Castle Field on Southsea Seafront.

Kaiser Chiefs, Shed Seven and The Lightning Seeds join Pete Docherty and Carl Barat on main Common Stage on Friday, while on Saturday, Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson, The Cribs, Gaz Coombes, Happy Mondays and Sleeper are part of the build-up for the former lead singer of The Jam.

On Sunday, Friendly Fires, Sleaford Mods, The Bluetones and Reading rockers The Amazons, will prepare fans in the main arena for an explosive final night with big beat dance pioneers The Prodigy.

It will be a special evening for Libertines’ fans after news that another festival in Kent next month will be their last live performance for “the foreseeable future” ahead of other projects including a new album.

On the Castle Stage, Paloma Faith and Everything Everything top the bill on Saturday before synth-popstars Years and Years take over on Sunday.

The same stage also boasts other acts that are no strangers to the south. Yorkshire stars Embrace sold out The Engine Rooms in April and memories of Sheffield’s Reverend and the Makers’ last show at The Wedgewood Rooms will still be vivid for many fans.

It is also less than 18 months since main stage stars The Amazons played The Joiners to promote their debut self-titled album.

As well as the biggest names in music, some of the most exciting new touring acts are also appearing.

On Saturday, Cassia, who headline The Joiners in October, are on The Castle Stage, while Trampolene, whose lead singer Jack Jones has close ties to Southampton, play the spectacular Seaside stage. On Sunday, hotly tipped bands The Orielles, and Stereo Honey play The Castle Stage

Popular local names are also on the line-up. On Saturday, Portsmouth’s Number 9 play the Seaside stage, which Flowvers headline on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, rising Southampton stars The Collision top the bill on The Real Age Stage, Winchester’s Temples of Youth are in the Beats and Swing Tent and BBC Introducing favourite Jerry Williams plays The Castle Stage.

If you cannot be there then Radio X will broadcast live from the Strongbow Yard with Johnny Vaughan 4pm-7pm on Friday and Gordon Smart 1pm-4pm at the weekend.
