TWO Southampton supermarkets have announced their support for a local appeal.

Sainsbury’s stores in Shirley and Portswood have declared CLIC Sargent as their charity of the year after being inspired by the project ‘Home from Home’.

The organisation is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and was voted for by customers both in-store and online.

Matt Hunter, store manager at Portswood Sainsbury’s, said: “I am delighted that we will be working with and supporting CLIC Sargent this year.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to get my team and customers involved to support a cause that touches so many people and in the local area.”

All of the money raised will go towards fundraising for a new ‘Home from Home’ called Jean’s House in Southampton, where families can stay for free to be near their

child undergoing cancer treatment

The house will be for families who have travelled many miles from home.

It will have seven en suite family bedrooms capable of sleeping up to four people, two open-plan kitchens, two lounges and a teenagers’ space.

Liz Blunt, CLIC Sargent fundraising engagement manager for Southampton, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be chosen.

“Thank you to all the staff and customers that voted for us, we really appreciate the support.
