POLICE have moved to allay fears in the community after a man was murdered in Totton.

It comes after Hampshire officers made four arrests as part of a murder probe into the death of a man on Salisbury Road on Sunday night.

Now police say they are "continuing to support" the family of the deceased. Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Matt Reeves said: “I know there may be some concern among the wider Totton community about this incident. Our officers and staff will be doing all they can to provide reassurance, but please do get in touch if you have any concerns."

Police are continuing to question a 19-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the death of a 26-year-old man from Wolverhampton and reports of a 'serious assault' at the Calmore home.

A 15-year-old boy and a 42-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but later released.

Hampshire Constabulary has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because the older man arrested on suspicion of murder suffered a "medical episode" shortly after he was detained.

Detectives investigating the murder are looking to question him as soon as he is discharged.

The murder took place at 7.45pm on Saturday.

The man was transported to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A police spokesperson said: "The investigation is ongoing and we would ask if you have any information that could help, please do get in contact."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote Operation Rosette or 44180322708.
