SHIRELY AND Freemantle watch organiser takes to social media after incidents of fly tipping near a primary school.

Tony Weafer, 65, who runs Shirely and Freemantle watch expressed his 'disappointment' on social media after another incident of fly tipping has occurred on the field behind St Mark's Church of England Primary School.

Tony received a phone call about the fly tipping on the field nearly three weeks ago from Cevin Vibert from Friends of the Field , a community organisation that helps to support the 8 acres of play-fields behind St Mark's school.

After speaking to Cevin about the fly tipping, Tony decided to pay £120 for the rubbish to be cleared and he also installed a second bin.

Tony said when he returned to the field a few weeks later he was 'quietly disappointed' to see that more rubbish had been dumped by the gate.

He said there are tins, bags of rubbish, clothes and a trolley all dumped on the ground.

Tony said: "this happens all of the time and I frequently see incidents like this in Shirley.

"It is very unsightly to see, it needs to be sorted before the kids return to school."

Cevin from Friends of The Field told the Echo that he also agrees that something needs to be done soon so it can be resolved before the new school term begins.

Testlands Support Project, a registered Southampton charity that promotes sport and education helps to run the field.

Luke Newman, the CEO said: "We have a really good relationship with St Mark's school and Friends of the Field.

"Whenever there are incidents like this the school normally report them to us straight away so we can get the problem sorted as soon as possible.

"However, due to the summer holidays and with staff being away this incident has only just been reported to us."

Luke told the Daily Echo that they will be taking action and that a litter pick will take place on September 31 to ensure that the field is clear for when the children at St Mark's return to school next week.

He said: " Residents can be reassured that the field will be clear of rubbish before the school term begins and if anyone sees any fly tipping at the field in the future then I encourage them to get in contact with us so we can resolve the issue."
