A PLAN to create a memorial garden in memory of Southampton teenager Lucy McHugh has been unveiled.
Plans are being discussed over the possibility of creating a memorial garden at Redbridge Community School - where Lucy was a pupil
The garden will honour the memory of the 13-year-old, whose body was found at Southampton Sports Centre on July 26.
Reverend Sean Blackman, Lucy's mum Stacey White and Jason Ashley, headteacher at Redbridge Community School are discussing plans for a memorial garden within the school ground, where students will be able to reflect and remember their friend.
The garden will be called 'Lucy's garden'.
Rev. Blackman, who led Lucy's funeral, said: "It will be a way to bring something beautiful out of something tragic. People need a place to work through their pain. Places have a significant role to play in helping people working through their grief and give hope for the future."
Details of the garden have not been confirmed yet and the scheme is at an early stage.
But the school has agreed for the site to be used and confirmed that the allotments currently in the area will be retained.
"When you want to nurture someone the best way to do it is to help someone else in nurturing other things and they'll nurture themselves through the process," Rev. Blackman added.
He also said they would like the community to contribute with ideas and help create the garden but the details are still being discussed.
