A HAMPSHIRE village is to get into the party spirit as a popular carnival returns.

Bishopstoke will be transformed into a sea of colours as the carnival will return this weekend.

This year there will be a new starting point for the parade which will begin at Bishopstoke Community Centre on September 16 at 1pm.

It will head down Sydney Road, head out to cross Church Road and go along Stoke Park Road.

It will then turn right into Sedgwick before swinging left and heading down Underwood Road all the way to Hamilton Road. The final stretch is to head along Hamilton Road all the way to the end.

Once reached Spring Lane the carnival courts and anyone else wanting to get into the Meadow can go down Portal Road.

The parade will have two new categories best individual / family and best vehicle along with children under 12, children 12 and over, and adults.

Trophies and prizes will be handed out during the fete in the afternoon and winners for each category will have the opportunity to win £50.

This year's theme is 'under the sea'.

As usual, the traditional river float competition will take place on Saturday morning outside the Memorial Hall in Riverside.

The top three floats will each receive a trophy and vouchers worth £30, £20 and £10.

Participants will have to bring their floats to Bishy Beach (opposite the Memorial Hall) between 11am and 11.25am and judging will begin at 11.30am.
