CO-ASSISTANT boss Chris Farrell says Blackfield & Langley have had no option but to “learn fast” in the Southern League.
Glenn Howes' newly-promoted Sydenhams Premier Division champions have taken the step up comfortably in their stride, winning three and drawing one of their opening five matches.
That leaves them second in the Evo-Stik Division One South, having been knocked off top spot by Evesham United who beat Slimbridge 1-0 on Wednesday.
“We’re all embracing exactly what Southern League football is,” said Farrell.
“It’s a much better standard than the Wessex League, it’s far more organised.
“You need to learn fast in this league because, if you don’t, you are going to be turned over.”
Blackfield are still on the lookout for players and are hoping to add another couple of new faces to the squad before Saturday's home game against Cirencester Town (3pm).
“We’re still learning at this level and all the while we’re trying to add to the squad,” said Farrell. “It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality.”
Blackfield’s need for new faces has been heightened by the loss of highly-regarded defender Joey Byrne to Evo-Stik South Premier outfit Gosport Borough.
Saturday's visitors Cirencester will be making a quick return trip to Hampshire after ruthlessly bursting AFC Stoneham’s FA Cup bubble 7-0 last Saturday.
