A BEGGAR has been BANNED from the heart of a Hampshire town.

Police say they have secured a Criminal Behaviour Order to stop Martin Steven Airey entering parts of Fareham town centre.

It comes after the 30-year-old breached an order by begging on a 'number of occasions' in West Street and Quay Street.

Airey will now be banned from entering, sleeping or remaining in the areas of Fareham town centre, including its car parks - unless for an appointment with the Avalon Centre.

He is also banned from sitting or loitering within 50 metres of any shop, cash machine or commercial premises in Fareham or Gosport.

The order, which lasts until September of 2020, at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Tuesday 12 September.

Criminal Behaviour Orders, which have replaced ASBO’S, are imposed by a court and can restrict where a person goes, who a person can associate with, and what activities a person is allowed to take part in.

Breaching the order is a criminal offence, which can lead to a prison sentence or a fine.
