TWO HAMPSHIRE businessmen are seeking the publics help to raise £25,000 to rebuild a school in Uganda.

Ryan Keary, a booker at Switch nightclub, and Kai Cant, who is the owner of one of the UK’s largest dance music events named ABODE, are planning to revamp and reopen a school in Uganda which will be able to educate 150 to 200 children.

Despite having raised more than £10,000, the pair need another £15,000 to undertake the project which is set to take place on November 4.

"They are seeking the public to 'dig deep' into their pockets to help them complete this renovation.

When asked why he wanted to undertake this renovation project, Ryan said: "Kai is the brainchild behind this, he's so passionate about making a difference out there, and is doing so.

"He was due to fly out a couple weeks ago on his own and asked if I fancied joining.

"Within 24 hours of embracing and witnessing the project, it just felt right to fully get involved. its crazy that we live within a world where people can live in such poor conditions and paid so little.

"The faces of the kids when you gave them a 5p cake, or 10p bottle of fanta was overwhelming.

"You’d have had to have a heart of stone to come away from there not trying to help.

"It really put life into perspective, and also made me rethink about a few things you take for granted, and how lucky a position we are in to try help."

Ryan and Kai not only intend to renovate the school but they also want it to be fully equipped with stationary, food, wages and clean water.

Ryan said: "Filling classrooms feels more important than filling nightclubs at the moment."

The pair will be holding a fundraiser at Switch nightclub on October 13 and all profits will go towards the project.

More than 25 local tradesman are set to travel out to Uganda to help with the project, paying for their own flights and accommodation, as well as taking a week off of work to get involved.

When asked why people should donate, Ryan said: "Because we all have families and kids, and by donating you can be a part of changing the lives of 100s of people.

"It's not fair these kids aren't given the same opportunities, and you really don't understand how lucky we are until you witness it first hand.

"What's more satisfying a takeaway - or donating that takeaway money to pay for the wages of a teacher to teach 40 kids daily for a month?"
