THOUSANDS of people packed the streets of Ringwood at the weekend for the town's annual carnival celebrations.

A colourful array of floats, assorted vehicles, marching bands and steam engines took part in the two processions.

The Meridian Corps of Drums, The Dolphin Marching Band and Raw Samba were just some of the bands providing musical entertainment.

In between the processions a host of activities took place at the carnival’s usual home of The Bickerley Green

The green boasted a larger funfair this year, plus activities carried on later into the evening.

Among the attractions were live music, circus skills workshops and even Bollywood dancing. Also, making their debut this year was the New Forest Harley Owners Group.

Saturday's fun was rounded off with a fireworks display.

The chairman of Ringwood Carnival, Alix Gardner, said: “We had an unbelievable number of people. More than I’ve seen in a long time.”

Ringwood Carnival is a registered charity and money raised from the event will go to support local causes in the town.

Alix thanked all the volunteers who helped with the carnival. Volunteers are always welcome, go to ringwoodcarnival. org to find out more.
