A RECORD numbers of visitors flocked to the Berwick St John Country Fayre this weekend.

Although no final figure had been released when the Journal went to press, it is believed the total amount raised to support Salisbury District Hospital's Stars Appeal charity will be in excess of the £35,000 raised during the last event in 216.

Fayre chairman Tim Mayhew said: "We are delighted with the weekend's event. Early signs indicate record numbers of visitors came to support us, hopefully creating yet another record donation. My thanks go to all our volunteer helpers who give their time freely to make our weekend event so successful. The generosity of visitors, helpers, sponsors and exhibitors alike has delivered our best show ever.

One visitor added: “The atmosphere at this year's fayre was superb! I've never seen so many folks with happy smiling faces. It was a joy to be part of such an authentic traditional country fayre where good old-fashioned fun was enjoyed by people of all ages."

Show secretary Louise Hall said it is "the commitment and support of the community" that helps the event to thrive and that fundraising results are due to "the most tremendous team effort".
