A GREAT many thanks for publishing the story on the Cunliffe-Owen Aircraft factory (Monday, September 17).

I worked at Ford for 32 year and always paid my respects to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during that fateful bombing raid.

When I was made redundant at Ford and then became councillor for Swaythling, I often wondered what happened to the plaques and book of remembrance that now resides at the South Stoneham Chapel and the plaque at the air museum.

I then made contact with Mountpark and Winvic, the Ford site developers, and asked if they would contribute a new plaque to remember the fallen. They did this quite willingly and the reveal was made on the November 1, 2017. It was revealed by a family member, daughter of one of the fallen, and members of her family. The new plaque to the fallen is proudly displayed in the memorial garden alongside Wide Lane.

I and those who took part are extremely grateful to Mountpark and Winvic for doing this for the relatives and residents of our proud city. I would also like to thank them for all the other contributions they have made to the local community a credit to the Industry.
