WE are delighted to read lots of fantastic ideas and useful actions that could be taken to improve the situation for our wildlife, in the manifesto for wildlife, launched by Chris Packham (Echo 19/09/18).
We of course have a particular interest in the hedgehog, and fully support having hedgehog holes in new fencing (and creating them in old ones). Hedgehogs need to travel around a mile at night, and that requires a lot of gardens!
A CD case sized hole is all that’s required to offer a useful connection for hedgehogs.
If you can get your neighbours to join in so much the better, create a whole Hedgehog Street!
Hedgehogs are currently in sharp decline and we can all do our bit to help them recover. The Hedgehog Street project that we run with People’s Trust for Endangered Species invites you to find out more and sign up to become a ‘Hedgehog Champion’ at www.hedgehogstreet.org
Chris says this is a people’s manifesto, and it truly is - together we can really make a difference.
