AN EVENT aimed at marking the centenary of the First World War has proved a great success.
Civic chiefs in Eastleigh said Eastleigh Remembers, the event that took place at Leigh Road Recreation Ground on September 15, has been a great success with hundreds flocking to the town centre to pay their respect to those who gave their life in the conflict.
The event included military vehicles and a re-enactment of a field hospital, as well as music and dance.
The day began with a parade from Wells Place to the War Memorial on Leigh Road Recreation Ground, led by Romsey Old Cadets Show Band.
Cllr Bruce Tennent, mayor of Eastleigh, said: “I was very honoured to be invited to take part in the Eastleigh Remembers event, which was part of a series of events this year, commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War. I would like to thank everyone responsible for making the day such a success as I know that a lot of work went into it.”
