THE first-ever GlennFest was “the best tribute festival it could be”.

Dozens packed the Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton for the event.

It was put on to raise awareness about mental health issues and celebrate the life of Glenn Lovell, “the force behind the Southampton music scene”.

As previously reported, Glenn was the owner of historic music venue The Joiners and died in March this year.

His family and friends decided to organise the GlennFest to celebrate his music and life and raise money for Solent Mind as well as bereavement charities Simon Says and The Red Lipstick Foundation.

Glennfest saw Glenn’s daughter Ava enthralling the audience with her version of Don’t Speak by No Doubt while Mr Lovell’s son Brandon made a “poignant but uplifting speech”.

Glenn’s friends played songs by his old band My Mantra, alongside original members Dave Clapp and Ed Wright.

Glenn’s wife Michelle said: “I was overwhelmed by the love and support our family was shown, the efforts the bands made and by all involved in arranging such a vast festival making it a sold out success.”

GlennFest II will take place at The Joiners on December 8. For tickets visit joiners.vticket.co.uk.
