A HAMPSHIRE mum braved the shave to raise money for a cancer charity.

Jo Vivian-Smith had her head shaved to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, with her hair going to Little Princess Trust – a charity which makes wigs for children going through treatment which leads to hairloss.

The 30-year-old, who is currently 24 weeks’ pregnant with twin boys, has so far raised £225 for the charity.

Jo, pictured right before the shave, is also a mother to two girls, Maddie, seven, and Isabelle, two.

She said: “You read in the paper youngsters dying of cancer and leaving young families behind. It’s heartbreaking.

“I wanted to help raise money so that one day we can find a cure and the future generations won’t have to deal with cancer.

“And my cut hair is to be made into wigs for children who have lost their hair.”

The shave took place at Partyman Play Centre in the Swan Centre, Eastleigh, at 11am where Jo was joined by her family and husband Ben.

Community pastor for Eastleigh Parish, Stacey Egan, was in charge of shaving Joanna’s head as she was a hairdresser for 18 years.

The pair know each other through their children’s school, Norwood Primary.

Megan Ferris, the event organiser, said: “I have had personal experience with Macmillan and they make a world of difference. You raise the money to say thank-you.“Even £5 can give a relative a cup of tea and a slice of cake.”

When she was 26 years old, Jo had a section of her cervix removed for tests after a cancer scare. The results came back clear.

Jo added: “I am also doing this to raise awareness for smear tests after my own scare. My great-gran and my auntie both had cervical cancer.

Daily Echo:

“I think more women should be made aware of the tests available.”

On Friday, September 28, Norwood Primary School hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning to also raise money for the charity, which brought in a total of £280.
