A NEW cross-city bus service is to be launched in Southampton next month.
Bluestar is set to extend its 17 route to include Adanac Park to the west and Woolston and Weston to the east.
It comes a year after rival company First axed its One service, cutting off Adanac Park - home to Ordnance Survey - from city bus routes.
Announcing the plans, Andrew Wickham, managing director of Bluestar, said: “I am delighted to announce that we are extending Bluestar 17 beyond Lower Brownhill to Adanac Park.
“We know those working at Ordnance Survey have been calling for services to aid commuting to-and-from the company’s offices in Nursling.
“This is an important investment for Bluestar, but we expect it to be well-received.”
The change, which comes in from Sunday, November 11, will also see the route extended into Woolston and Weston.
It will be the first Bluestar route to service Weston.
Bluestar will also introduce a new Sunday hourly route on its 11 service to West Totton.
As a result, there will now be an improved 30 minute combined service between Southampton and Totton town centre.
Other changes include an extra bus at 8.20pm from Southampton to Romsey to cater for West Quay’s closing time, Bluestar 16 will have an earlier bus from Townhill Park to Southampton on Monday to Friday, while Bluestar 9 will have a revised Sunday timetable including additional buses to Calshot Beach.
Here is a breakdown of the changes Bluestar are set to make
Bluestar 4
An extra bus at 8.20pm from Southampton to Romsey to cater for West Quay’s closing time.
Bluestar 5
Additional earlier and later return journeys between Eastleigh & Romsey.
Bluestar 8:
Revised timetable to reflect demand including fewer journeys on Sundays.
Bluestar 9
Additional late evening journeys will run via Fawley to reflect customer demand.
Revised Sunday timetable including additional buses to Calshot Beach.
Bluestar 11/12
New Sunday hourly service introduced on Bluestar 11 to West Totton. As a result there will now be an improved 30 minute combined service between Southampton & Totton town centre.
Bluestar 16
An earlier bus will run from Townhill Park to Southampton on Monday to Friday. An improved evening service will also be introduced with later buses.
Bluestar 17
Will be extended in both directions and will now serve Weston – Woolston – city centre – Central Station – Shirley – General Hospital – Aldermoor – Lordshill – Lower Brownhill – Adanac Park up to every 10 minutes. Monday to Saturday and up to every 15 minutes Sunday. This route will now be operated by dual door double deck buses.
Bluestar 18
Earlier morning buses on Saturdays & Sundays.
