POLICE have launched an appeal after a man was found dead on an 'unlit track' in Hampshire.

The man was discovered by a member of the public on the ground next to a BMX bike, just before midnight on Wednesday October 1.

It is believed the man, 43, was cycling along an unlit track close to the Inn on the Beach and the Beachlands Car Park on Hayling Island.

He was found by members of the public, who called paramedics.

They attempted to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the Queen Alexander Hospital.

His next of kin have been informed, and formal identification procedures are on-going.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: "Did you see the man cycling that night? If you can help or if you have any information, please call 101."
