A COMMEMORATIVE stone to mark the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War One will be unveiled by the Mayor of Fareham.

The unveiling ceremony will take place on Monday, October 22 in West Street, near The Ironmaster pub, in an event running from 11am-12:30pm.

Paying tribute to the ‘Lost Sons of Fareham’ the monument will be positioned to face its counterpart, installed four years ago to mark the centenary of the start of the war.

Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Susan Bayford, said “I am very proud to be paying tribute to those who fought in the First World War, by unveiling this commemorative stone. We welcome residents to join us in this ceremony as we remember all those servicemen and women from Fareham who did not return from the war.”

The event will begin with a musical performance followed by a reading from The Mayor of Fareham. There will also be a rendition of The Last Post and twelve doves will be released as a sign of peace.

Westbury Manor’s new exhibition ‘Fareham and The Great War’, which highlights the role played by the people of Fareham and those who lost their lives, opens to the public on the same day at 1.30pm.
