I READ with interest the letter from A Semple Tues Oct 9th. Concerning Totton flyover at Redbridge.

What I would like to know is Why Ikea was allowed to be situated where it is. Why, was it not put somewhere like the new Lidl warehouse is now.

We used to travel to Bristol if we needed to go to Ikea. I agree with all points A Semple made especially about a Park and Ride.

So many other cities have them.

No, the council is afraid of losing revenue if they agreed to that.

Transport is generally not good depending where you live.

Trains not always reliable.

Why do they think people use their cars?

How many councillors drive into Southampton?

Do they all either cycle or catch buses. I wonder.

I am appalled that consideration is being made to charge lorries £100 a day to drive into the city.

I have no involvement with any haulage companies and do know anyone who drives a lorry but why penalise them when we know we will all be paying for it in the long run.

The cost would have to be covered by someone.

What I would really like to know is where will those £100 go?

Will they solve the pollution problem ?

I cannot see how unless the companies cut down on number of lorries coming here.

I think we would all lose out then.

But then the situation should not have got this bad if the council did their jobs properly and not wait until there is a problem.

If they had some foresight then they should have seen what was coming.

The council now also intends to charge motorists an extra 20p to cross the Itchen Bridge.

As I understood it we were informed that there would be a toll until the bridge was paid for.

That will never happen.
