Shane Long is an injury doubt ahead of Ireland’s UEFA Nations League clash with Wales tomorrow night.

Long played 80 minutes for his national side in their goalless draw with Denmark on Saturday night before being substituted by manager Martin O’Neill.

Ahead of their crucial match with Wales tomorrow, O’Neill confirmed that he will make a late decision as to whether the Southampton striker will feature.

O’Neill said: “We’ll think about whether he starts or not.

“He did get through a large part of the game on Saturday, took a few knocks and bruises so we’ll see how he is later on today.”

Long’s Ireland side picked up their first point of the campaign against Denmark and can lift themselves above Wales into second with a win tomorrow evening.

And they have been given a huge boost as ex-Saint Gareth Bale and Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey have pulled out of Ryan Giggs’ side.

However, O’Neill is still wary of the threat Wales pose.

He added: “Bale is a world class player.

“Ramsey is a top quality player himself. I keep going back to it, we’ve got players missing who would be normal starters for us.

“We’ve got to be more creative if we can be. We’ve got to use the ball in the final third and be confident, more creative.”
