HEALTH bosses say they unsure when a flooded GP's surgery will be used again.

Victor Street Surgery, in Shirley, was shut after flooding caused a ceiling to collapse.

Bosses at the surgery have told patients to not come to booked appointments.

A water pipe for one of the first floor bathroom began leaking at some time over the weekend but staff are not sure when.

On Sunday, October 14, the downstairs ceiling caved in causing the surgery’s alarms to sound at around 2.30pm.

Daily Echo:

The surgery, located next to Wordsworth Primary School, has sever water damage to the walls and floors, no electricity and part of the ground floor ceiling has collapsed making a section of the building unsafe.

Dan Tongue, one of the surgery partners, said: “We will endeavour to get a full service up and running as soon as possible.

“But we are asking our patients to please bear with us.”

He added: “We reckon the surgery will be closed for four to six weeks at the moment.”

Staff cannot yet put a date on the surgery’s reopening.

Southampton Primary Care Limited (SPCL) have provided hubs to keep some services of the surgery going, and some GPs will be working out of the Southampton emergency department.

Other local surgeries have offered Victor Street GPs rooms to use for seeing patients whilst repairs are underway.

The damage was assessed on Monday and it is estimated that the building will take three to four weeks to dry before any repair work can begin.

There is not yet a quote for the cost of repairs.

A statement on its website says: “Victor Street Surgery has had a burst water pipe over the weekend 14/10/18 causing significant damage to a large part of the building.

“We will not be opening [this week] and we are currently unsure when we will be operational from the building.

Daily Echo:

“If you have an appointment booked please do not come, we will be in touch with you.

“Our surgery phone will be operational on Monday 15/10/18 but please be patient when calling through, as all our calls are being routed through to another location.

“Our GPs will be working from alternative locations and providing phone triage.

“We will keep the website updated with information.

“Thank you for your patience through this difficult time.”
