A CELEBRATION is to take place today, recognising the work of residents who work with vulnerable children, young people, and their families.

Taking place in Bedford Place bar The Social, the “one-of-a-kind” event is hosted to say a big ‘thank you’ to carers for their hard work and commitment.

Run by Southampton City Council, the evening is open to anyone from the city who is working in a Children’s Services social work based role.

The authority’s Principal Social Work Team decided to organise the event to celebrate social work.

Clare Gott, advanced practitioner from the team, said: “This event is a chance for all of those working with children in the local area to meet up to chat and network, at the same time as letting our hair down and enjoying a well-earned bit of downtime!

“It’s an opportunity to remind ourselves why we chose the profession we’re in, the challenges we face, and the positive impact that we have on the lives of those we work with.

“Southampton is a great place to live and work and we’re keen to share some of the employment benefits that are available at the council with those who have the same specialist skillset and experience that we do.”

Guests will receive a welcome drink upon arrival and complimentary nibbles will also be served. As well as discounted drinks for the rest of the event, those attending can get active and channel some energy or relax and unwind with free activities.

There will be yoga and kickboxing, a ‘drop-in’ mental health check-up and advice service from an NHS professional, head and shoulder massages, mini-manicures, arts and crafts.
