A SOUTHAMPTON primary school headteacher is striving for more outstanding achievements.

Nagindra Chungh, head at St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, said she wants the school to continue “achieving excellence”.

This comes after the early years part of the school was awarded ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted this year.

Nagindra said the teachers “bring learning to life” for the 622 pupils, aged three to 11, and this was noted by Ofsted which rated the school overall as ‘good’.

She said: “We want to inspire our students to have the passion to learn and we do this through our well balanced curriculum.”

Nagindra said teachers at the school decided to strip back the curriculum and engage the subjects they teach with what is happening in the local area.

This year they have also been awarded the social, moral, cultural and spiritual award which recognises the school, in Ascupart Street, caters for all student needs.

An early years open day will also be being held at the school on November 6 at 1.45pm so that parents can come along and get an understanding of the school. A variety of activities will be held throughout the day that visitors can get involved with.

Nagindra said: “We want to encourage parents to be involved. We are community focused and encourage them to get engaged with our school practice.

“We don’t close our gates to parents and families, we want them to be a big part of the school.”

Daily Echo:

ST MARY'S Church of England Primary is a vibrant inner city school.

We aim to nurture and inspire our learners to become motivated and successful who are equipped to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.

We do this by creating a positive, stimulating and creative environment that promotes the development of children’s academic, social, moral, spiritual and physical learning.

We also offer numerous after school clubs such as football, reading, music, maths, dance and many more over the course of the year.

We provide a rich and varied curriculum that enables everyone to succeed.

We have high expectations of our children and provide lots of support to help them achieve.

We believe everyone should enjoy school and we plan many exciting activities to make learning fun. Our school values – Hope, Respect, Tolerance and Belonging – are very important to us.

Children learn about these values and refer to them in their everyday school life.

Children treat one another in a friendly and fair manner.

In our recent Ofsted the overall effectiveness of the school was ‘Good.’

However, our Early Years’ provision was recognised by Ofsted inspectors to be ‘OUTSTANDING.’

In Early Years, we ensure that the children have secure foundations embedded to support them as they go through the school.

Early Years is a vibrant learning environment where pupil are given the opportunities to develop their creativity and curiosity.

Ofsted said, ‘Children make OUTSTANDING progress.

As a result, a large majority of children reach a good level of development.

Many develop writing and number skills that are above the standard expected for their age by the end of the Reception Year.
